Website vs Blog

Which is really better?  A professional will tell you opt for a website, it has a more serious appeal regarding your clients. I back this I actually think it’s true.

Before I started blogging I had an option between the website and a blog, I opted for the blog.  To be honest I was looking at costs. The blog is cheaper but more importantly it feels better to have a blog.I get to express my views and write my autobiography. I’m not a writer, my grammar may not be the best but there’s a sincere fulfillment when I write and the WordPress community is quite encouraging.

The blog suites me better. I can express my artistic views which is what a website doesn’t allow.

Micro Business

Pelican Craft Center where my business is located did not get such high reviews on Trip Advisor. Given the amount of talented craftsmen on the island, I personally think management of the complex can make it more appealing to both craftsmen and tourist.
As chief, cook and bottle washer most  of the work is at the hands of me, the sole proprietor. A typical day can be hectic even if I’m out of the shop on business (whether running an errand, meeting with clients or attending meetings) that means it’ll be closed sometimes during the day.

Crystal Forms has been added to Google maps. Please feel free to review me once an appointment is made.

Solace Table Lamp

Solace is the first in a series called imperfect perfection. It’s the only one made with the center completely hollow, no light fixtures or wires. The minimalist design started out of my depression. I only intend to make four of these. It looks symmetrically correct but when closely viewed it has “imperfections”, that’s what makes it look interesting when looking from different angles.

For the Children

This table lamp was auctioned at the Sandy Lane Charitable Trust last year around this time. The trust helped with building a school for the disabled and children who needed urgent medical care, it also donated medical equipment to ICU of our general hospital.

Coral Rocks not Paperweights

My inspiration for coral rocks came when I was snorkeling along the west coast of Barbados. I saw amazing brain coral which gave me my eureka moment. I wanted to build my interpretation of  coral rather than copy what I saw.

The techniques used for this is called compression or what some would call implosion. Lines and dots are drawn onto a flat disc of clear it is then held at a downward angle  while the fire from the torch heats the edge of the disc, it is periodically compressed. Depending on how the lines and dots are drawn determines the final look of the piece, in some cases the lines will be drawn in the opposite direction in order to achieve a certain finished look. The process takes much longer that the traditional methods used to form a paperweight. Gravity and timing are essential when using this technique. It’s complex to explain with words but if you ever visit Barbados I can give a brief fifteen minute demo.

People look at them as paperweights but I beg to differ, since they’re not made like traditional I renamed them Coral Rocks.

The World’s first………

Hollow lamp originally handcrafted with borosilicate crystal to be a 3D type design but it still achieves this effect without the glasses. My concept is to have a minimalist yet futuristic design without wires, large bulbs or any fixtures in the center, taking six months to construct it required more thought than physical development to conceive. In my coming post I’ll talk about the material more in dept.
